Hotel Surfances

Discover Cantabria

Hotel Surfances is located in the town of Suances, a seafarers’ locality preserving traditional features such as the gastronomy tied to the flavours of the sea.
Despite the fact of being a calm and familiar town, the arrival of tourism associated to surf has driven the development of a big amount of cultural and leisure options.
The main attraction in Suances is its singular landscape. Delimited by the estuary of the rivers Saja and Besaya and the cliffs of Punta del Dichoso, the town matches big sandy areas, such as the kilometric Playa de la Concha, and the green landscape typical in northern Spain.

The city of Santander is just 30 kilometres away from Hotel Surfances. The capital of Cantabria stands out because of its many monuments, such as the historical site of El Sardinero, the Cathedral of Nuestra Señora de la Asunción, Magdalena Palace and its gardens, or Corbanera Castle.

In Santander you can also enjoy the numerous beaches. Some of them are shielded and ideal for swimming and sunbathing, while others are open to Atlantic Sea and have big waves, such as El Camello or Mataleñas.

Furthermore, Santander has a lot of parties and festivals, the main ones are the Día Infantil de Cantabria, which takes place the first Sunday of June; the fireplaces of San Juan the 24th of June, or the patron saint festivities celebrated on September 15th.

Santillana del Mar

Enjoy your stay at Hotel Surfances to get to know Santillana del Mar, located just 10 kilometres away. It is known as the town of the three lies, as it isn’t saint (“santa” in Spanish), plain (“llana”) or in the sea (“mar”).

Santillana del Mar was declared a historical and artistic site on 1889. Among its many monuments, we recommend you the colegiata de Santa Juliana, the Town Hall, the Convent of San Ildefonso, the Museum Regina Coeli, the tower of El Merino or the palaces of Viveda, Mijares, Casa de Valdivieso, Velarde, Casa de Barreda-Bracho and Peredo-Barreda.

In Santillana you can also visit the famous Cave of Altamira, declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1985.

Comillas, located 25 kilometres away from the hotel, stands out by its historical site including the Palace of Sobrellano, “El Capricho de Gaudí”, the University Pontificia de Comillas, Torre de la Vega, the cemetery and the church of San Cristóbal.

Moreover, you can visit the natural park of Oyambre and the beaches.

San Vicente de la Barquera

San Vicente de la Barquera is also situated on the natural park of Oyambre. It is a traditional seafarer’s town, strongly linked to the sea. Here you can enjoy the typical gastronomy of the coast of Cantabria, having fish and seafood as main elements.

In San Vicente, you can distinguish the Picos de Europa Mountains on the horizon.

The park of Cabárceno

The park of Cabárceno has an extension of 750 hectares, situated over an ancient open-pit mining. This unique site shelters more than one hundred species of animals from the five continents that live in an environment as similar as possible to their natural habitat and almost in total freedom.

The park, managed by the government of Cantabria, provides food and health care to ensure the animals welfare. Habitat and life conditions in the park have been recognised by several international organisations.

Cabárceno is an ideal place to spend the day with the family or with friends, discovering lynx, brown bears, elephants, gorillas, zebras, tigers and a hundred of animals in a unique experience. Through more than 20 kilometres of roads that go all over the park, you will also find lakes, leisure areas, viewpoints, botanical routes and lots of activities.

Cave El Soplao

The Cave of El Soplao is a cavity with one-of-a kind characteristics. Among its 20 kilometres, the cave has a big amount of rare geological formations, such as helictites and curtains that will surprise you with its curious shapes that seem to defy gravity.

You can visit four kilometres of the caves, traversing formations and paths from the Mesozoic, 240 million years ago.
